A relaxed waterside restaurant at Universal Marina, run by two longstanding members of the former Banana Wharf team. Its seasonally changing menu, lighter lunches and considered wine and drinks list are served in a cosy dining room or the marina garden — sociable, polished and closely connected to life on the River Hamble.

A relaxed steakhouse, bar and small hotel opposite Swanwick Marina near the banks of the Hamble. The menu is built around generously portioned steaks and grill cooking, making it an unfussy waterside stop rather than a formal destination steakhouse.

A Grade II-listed village inn near the waterfront in Hamble, full of oak beams, exposed brick, timber and an open fireplace. Seasonal cooking with local provenance, real ales and a river-facing terrace give it the substance and atmosphere expected of a proper coastal English pub.

A quiet, contemporary collection of rooms and self-contained studios in landscaped grounds near the River Hamble and Warsash Maritime Academy. More private house than conventional hotel, it offers an unusually calm base for longer stays around Warsash, Hamble and the surrounding marinas. Great English breakfasts in the morning.

An independent coffee shop inside Universal Marina, serving its own onsite-roasted coffee alongside cakes, pastries and straightforward deli-style food. Indoor and covered outdoor seating make it an easy stopping point on the quieter, tree-lined stretch of the River Hamble. A longstanding waterside pub on Shore Road, occupying one of Warsash’s characteristic positions overlooking the mouth of the River Hamble. Traditional pub food and drinks are secondary to the easy pleasure of watching ferries, yachts and river traffic from the shoreline.

A historic riverside pub tucked down the wooded bank at Old Bursledon, with decks and a pontoon looking directly across the Hamble toward Swanwick Marina. Its weathered maritime character, waterside access and seasonal pub cooking make it feel inseparable from the sailing life of the river. Very charming view of the riverside, built into the bluffs of the North Bank of the Hamble—lit by string lights in the evenings. Go for the slow-cooked beef-and-Guinness pie, then finish with the sticky toffee pudding.
