Discriminantly is operated by Brian Gerard Elicierto. This page explains what Discriminantly keeps, who can see it, and what happens when you connect an AI assistant. Questions: brianelicierto@mac.com.
What we keep
Your account: your name, handle, email address and password. Your password is stored only as a salted scrypt hash, never in readable form. Your profile: a bio, a website and an avatar, if you add them.
What you add: notes, travel marks, check-ins, collections, itineraries, ensembles, comments, warrants, ownership records, and the photos attached to them.
Places and where you have been: for a travel mark, the place’s name and, when a place lookup finds them, its address and map coordinates. A check-in keeps the dates you say you were there, so together your marks and check-ins are a record of where you have been. Check-ins follow the privacy of the mark they belong to.
A history of changes: when something is added, changed or removed, and whether you did it yourself or an assistant did it for you.
Server logs: when a request fails, Discriminantly logs the time, what was being attempted, your handle, the names of the details it was given (not their contents), a short reference and the error, so the problem can be diagnosed. Our hosting provider also keeps standard request logs, such as the address requested, the time and the response. Both are kept for a limited period set by the provider.
AI connections: which assistants you have connected, when you connected them, when each was last used, and the credentials they use to connect.
Cookies: one cookie keeps you signed in, and two remember your chosen look (the skin, and light or dark mode). Discriminantly itself runs no analytics and no advertising, and does not track you across other sites.
Who can see it
Notes, travel marks and ensembles are visible to other members, and to anyone with the link, unless you mark them private. Itineraries start private. Check-ins, collection names, comments and warrants appear with the note or mark they belong to, so whoever can see that note or mark can see them too. Ownership records are visible only to you and assistants you connect. Your email address is never shown to other members.
Something you mark private is not visible to other members or the public. AI assistants you connect can see it, as described below. The operator can also access stored information, including private things, when that is needed to run, secure or support Discriminantly.
AI assistants you connect
When you connect an assistant, such as ChatGPT or Claude, it can read everything you keep here, including private things, and can add, change and remove things on your behalf. Each change it makes is recorded as that assistant acting for you.
What an assistant receives: the things it asks for, with the details needed to work with them, such as their identifiers, when you added them, their places and dates, and their privacy. When it reads public notes or comments by other members, it also receives those members’ handles, as anyone viewing them here would.
What the assistant’s provider keeps from your conversations, and how it uses it, is governed by that provider’s own policies. You can disconnect an assistant in Settings at any time, and it loses access immediately.
AI training
Discriminantly does not use what you keep to train AI models, and does not itself send it to any AI provider. It reaches an AI provider only through an assistant you have connected.
Services we rely on
Hosting: Discriminantly runs on Railway, a cloud hosting provider, which stores and processes what is kept here on our behalf.
Place lookups: when you or an assistant look up a place, Discriminantly sends the search text, such as a place name and city, to Photon, an open map search service run by Komoot. The request comes from our server, not your browser.
Links and images: when you add a link or an image link, Discriminantly visits that address from its server to fetch the image, or the page’s title and picture. The site sees our server, not you.
In your browser: pages load fonts from Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts, and maps are shown from OpenStreetMap. Your browser contacts those services directly, so they receive your IP address and basic browser details.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with advertisers. We share it with the services above only as needed to run Discriminantly, and with the assistants you choose to connect. We may also disclose information when the law or valid legal process requires it, or when it is reasonably necessary to protect Discriminantly’s security, investigate abuse or enforce our Terms.
Keeping and deleting
We keep what you add until you delete it. When you delete a note, mark, check-in, itinerary or ensemble, it is removed from your account right away. Some traces can remain afterwards: photos that were attached to it stay in storage, though no longer shown with it; the history of changes keeps a record that it existed and was removed; and copies can remain in backups until those backups are removed.
To delete your whole account, write to brianelicierto@mac.com. Account deletion is currently done by hand, so it may take a little time.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your account and what you keep here. No online service can guarantee complete security.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so on the site. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
