Tomos Parry’s first-floor Shoreditch restaurant channels the wood-fired cooking of Spain’s Basque coast through British produce and a distinctly convivial room. The whole turbot cooked in a cage over flame is the signature, but the deeper appeal is a menu of smoky breads, grilled seafood, vegetables and meat designed to arrive generously for the table.

A basement Shoreditch cocktail bar from Mr Lyan and team, built around stripped-back analogue forms, natural variation and the visible maker’s touch. The frequently changing drinks use fermentation, savoury ingredients and precise technique without becoming theatrical; vinyl-led weekend sessions extend the same hand-made sensibility into the room and music.

Leila McAlister’s compact Calvert Avenue food shop is built around close relationships with growers, makers and importers rather than the breadth of a conventional grocer. Seasonal produce, good bread, farmhouse cheeses, olive oils, preserves and hard-to-source pantry goods form a selection that feels personal, ingredient-led and intended for people who cook.
