The imposing house at No. 1 Savile Row, shaped by the combined histories of naval outfitter Gieves and military and court tailor Hawkes. Its bespoke, made-to-measure and military departments preserve a particularly disciplined expression of British tailoring, backed by centuries of ceremonial and service dress.

Often described as the founding house of Savile Row, with roots reaching back to 1806 and an extraordinary archive of royal and international clients. Henry Poole is also credited with creating the first modern dinner jacket in 1865 — a house grounded in traditional bespoke craft but central to the evolution of men’s formal dress.

A Savile Row house founded in 1849, with an equestrian inheritance still visible in its strong, sculpted tailoring. Huntsman’s signature single-button coat — high armholes, a defined waist and a longer, subtly flared skirt — gives the house one of the Row’s most immediately recognizable silhouettes.

One of the defining houses of twentieth-century English bespoke tailoring, founded in 1906 and now based on Old Burlington Street. Come for the house cut—the English Drape—with soft shoulders, seams cut on the bias, high armholes and a subtly swollen chest. The result is relaxed but trim silhouette, prioritising movement, comfort and an elegant natural line. They tend to cut their coats a touch long, but it is bespoke, so the proportions can be adjusted to your liking.

An independent Piccadilly Arcade shirtmaker founded in 1910, with its bespoke cutting room still above the small shop. Bespoke and ready-to-wear shirts sit alongside ties, sleepwear and accessories, carrying forward the intimate scale and specialist knowledge of traditional St James’s shirtmaking.
