The original Middendorf’s in Manchac, a Louisiana seafood institution operating since 1934 and famous for its signature thin-fried catfish. Its waterside, down-home setting and menu of catfish, oysters, shrimp, gumbo and other regional seafood make it a destination beyond New Orleans rather than simply another fish restaurant.

A casual French Quarter po-boy shop at 908 Bourbon Street, serving the neighbourhood’s late-night crowds since 1987. Known for generously filled classics such as fried shrimp and hot roast beef, alongside muffulettas, debris fries and the option to add distinctly New Orleans heat.

A French Quarter institution on Royal Street serving refined Creole cooking in its distinctive pink historic building. Brennan’s invented Bananas Foster in the early 1950s, and the tableside flambé remains the essential finale: bananas cooked with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and rum, served with vanilla ice cream.

A relaxed, family-run restaurant at Anse à la Mouche serving Seychellois Creole cooking, fresh fish and seafood alongside unfussy international dishes. The appeal is its local character and easy setting facing the bay — a welcome, reasonably priced counterpoint to resort dining and conveniently close to Four Seasons at Petite Anse.
